Dreamland.
- Sarah Dessen.
Journal Entry Number One- Read To Page 100.
This book inspired me.It's about this girl Caitlin is a unique person and is now dating this guy who is really sweet but has some problems. He smokes pot all the time and all they ever do is make out and go to parties. But he says the sweetest things to her and she falls for it. And I think that it's the stupidest thing. But every girl I know has done the same thing. Some guys just can't actually feel what they say they feel. And it's not all there fault, some guys have to keep up there reputations. And reading this has made me truly realize that it's okay to be alone. Sometimes it takes more effort to be with a person than to be without them. So to all those people that are in bad relationships, if at all possible, get out of it. And to all those friends out there that tell those girls to stop and break up with that boy. She's never going to listen to you. She has to make the choice herself. Nobody is going to make your life better. If you feel that you need to get out of relationship, just do it. Its all you can do. And to all those that are called heartbreakers, just think that those people who say that have no idea what really went on inside your heart and mind. And I believe that real love will come when your truly happy by yourself. Wait for real love. It'll be worth it. Plus this high school, there is no need to worry about crap like this. Have fun. And life will go on. Just live for your dreams. It's all you can do to get through.
Quotes-
"But what he didn't understand was that this dreamland was preferable, walking through this life half-sleeping, everything at arm's length or farther away.’’
“All I wanted was to block out all the human voices as they called my name again and again, pulling me upward into the light, to drown."
"I was drowning in broad daylight and no one could tell."
"I concentrated on reaching the surface, feeling the water break across my face as I burst through it into the air to finally breathe on my own."
“There is never a time and place for true love.”
Journal Entry Number Two- Finished The Book.
This girl was stranded in this so called dreamland. But her boyfriend was abusing her. She couldn’t wake up. She felt she had no place to go. Her family was no longer important to her and none of her friends cared about her anymore. I know these things happen in the real world all the time. So this book brought some reality to high school relationships. I felt so bad while reading it. I never thought that Rogerson would have done that to her at first because he was so sweet to her, even though he had bad intentions. I just think if I would have been in that same situation I would have probably done the same thing. She couldn’t really do anything about it. I just wish that some of those victims would read this book and really try to get help. Because no one wants to live that life filled with someone watching you all the time and not having a choice in anything. Having bruises over your body all the time. It’s just so cruel and sometimes it’s the easiest thing to keep living the same way and get caught up and not want to change it. And telling yourself that those times that he is sweet is worth it to you. But its not, if he hurts you. It’s not worth it. That's what I got out of this book. I hope you'll get it out of this book too.
Hold on to your dreams.
Book 2:
The Mermaid Chair
- Sue Monk Kidd
The quote the truly explains the whole book:
Lovers don't finally meet somewhere.
They're in each other all along.
This story is about an affair.
Quotes Will Explain It All:
"Yes, here I am returning, the woman who bore herself to the bottom and back. Who wanted to swim like dolphins, leaping waves and diving. Who wanted only to belong to herself."
"If you aren't giving people something to talk about, you've become too dull."
"I marvel at how good I was before I met him, how I lived molded to the smallest space possible, my days the size of little beads that passed without passion through my fingers. So few people know what they're capable of. At forty-two I'd never done anything that took my own breath away, and I suppose now that was part of the problem - my chronic inability to astonish myself."
"She didn't even know how dangerous the truth could be, all the tiny, shattering seeds it carried."
I guess there is a movie. But if you read it. You would not picture it like this. It describes it way different. The characters and the setting of the beach.
This book is about a lady who doesn't know herself and is searching to find out who that really is. When I said it was about an affair, you would probably think well why would I want to read that. But its about true love and how sometimes you make the wrong choices. Its about the real world and a real woman with one life that she could never change. It wasn't that she was trying to hurt her family. She just had never done anything that wasn't in the works for her already. And for once in her life, she realized she had to take a chance which turned out to be the love of her life. After her dad died when his boat caught on fire. She started blaming everything on herself. Because the boat he was on was named after her and the investigators said that it was a pipe that lit the boat on fire and she gave him that pipe for his birthday, so its her fault. She swam with dolphins and lived on an island with her grandma while she was sick and left her life with her husband back in the city.
Reflections:
I won't give a way the ending but I hate it. Some people may have different views. I liked it but it wasn't enough to impact me. It was just no my favorite.
Book 3:
Tristan And Iseult
Tristan is cast off to sea by his village because they think he is dead, but he is alive and found by a princess on the sea shore, he is taken into her care and they do fall in love. As he becomes well enough to talk she found out he was not of her country and they were in a war against each other. As he traveled back to his country, all he thought about was her. After many strenuous battles, there comes a competition in town and the prize to be won happens to be her. He wins easily, and finds out the lord of his village wins her and he will never be able to be with her again. She thought the same but she arrives at the village and the lord comes out to win her and she is so upset and heartbroken. They end up having a secret relationship and getting caught and sent away to live together.
Reflections:
This book was so beautiful and inspiring. The love they shared lasted through everything and it was so perfect. Everything around them didn't matter as long as they had each other. I hope that my fate is to meet someone that will take care of me. There fate was tangled and they had to go through tunnels and obstacles to finally reach each others arms, the only place they felt safe. Even though they did cheat, it was how it was supposed to be. And it was such a good book and I reccommend anyone to read it.
Quote:
"You were right. I don't know if life is greater than death. But love was more than either. "

Hey sweets. The little girl reminds me of the inner Molly. In a field of dreams. And the relationship advice is deep. I love it.

Sadly, people tend to let their true dreams get crushed by someone else's false promises. There's a lot to be said for your wise comment about seeing the bigger picture of life. We often get distracted by the paltry sideshows.

I loved it. It started out slow but it got pretty good. Its a love story. Not the best book I ever read. But I couldn't put it down.

The story of Tristan and Iseult gets told and re-told because it never goes out of fashion, so to speak. Could you add depth to the level of you reflection? How about some more quotations? Vocabulary?
